A frequent problem experienced by users of oil free reciprocating gas compressors is the unpredictable life of piston and rod seals, which are traditionally manufactured from filled-PTFE compositions of various brands. This problem is amplified when the gases are "bone-dry", such as boil-off hydrocarbon gases from liquid storage. This paper describes the testing and successful field application of new non-metallic compounds which have addressed and effectively solved these problems.
