Abstract
This paper provides an overview of alternative methods used for requalification of compressed gas tube trailers and cylinders. The practice of hydrostatic testing may be substituted by newer electronic based testing. These newer methods are faster, non-contaminating and provide more information on the integrity of the container. The methods discussed are Acoustic Emission Testing (AET) and Ultrasonic Examination (UE). Weldship Corporation, with facilities in Bethlehem Pennsylvania and Gainesville Texas, is one of 3 companies authorized by the US Department of Transportation to perform AET and UE in lieu of hydrostatic testing to recertify jumbo and conventional tubes and cylinders. Weldship Corporation provides servicing, leasing and manufacturing of tube trailers and other related compressed gas transport and storage equipment since 1973.
